A purported necklace swiper going through a trial at the Berlin Regional Court is on the hot seat after a string of incidences nearly a year back. This 37-year-oldman is accused of swiping necklaces from six different women, and in one case, he gravely injured a 51-year-old by dragging her with his car. The charges blamed on him involve attempted murder, robbery, robbery with violence, and grievous bodily harm, amongst others. During the trial's inauguration on Tuesday, the accused through his lawyer said, "I did it and I won’t deny it." He was under the influence of numerous drugs back thenand can only remember bits and pieces of the charges put forward against him.

Around June 2023, the accused from Serbia supposedly seized a gold necklace from a 51-year-old lady during a late-night shopping trip at Berlin-Neukölln. When he attempted to escape in a car, the lady implored him to return her necklace from his window. The man pulled off and dragged the lady "hanging outside the vehicle," as mentioned in the indictment. The accused, it was claimed, intentionally drove past a stopped truck so that the 51-year-old hit the truck and then was tossed onto the street. She sustained life-threatening crack fractures. In the same month, the 37-year-old is accused of indulging in necklace thefts worth between 40 euros and almost 430 euros from five other women.

The defendant claimed he messed up with the 51-year-old. "I had no idea she was trailing me," he said in his account. The woman suddenly showed up at his window. He couldn't see that she was half in his car. He inadvertently gave the gas and "apparently lost control." He didn't realize what happened to the lady. He is "foggy" about the other occurrences. The situation is extremely distressing for him. The trial against this man, who has stayed in custody for ten months, will resume on June 18.
