A series of small fires caused the Asklepios Clinic in Hamburg-Altona to stop its surgery operations temporarily on a Friday morning. The flames dispersed permanently, allowing the hospital to carry out operations without any restrictions, as confirmed by a fire department representative who spoke to the German Press Agency. No injuries were reported initially, and patients were allowed to stay in their rooms throughout the fire department's intervention.

The authorities suspect arson as a possible cause of the fires. A 61-year-old woman was detained on these grounds by the police. A police representative confirmed that the woman is suspected to be the arsonist but did not disclose any more details.

The fire department discovered four different fires located on various floors within the clinic. These were extinguished by the time the fire department arrived, possibly by the staff themselves. According to a spokesperson, the smoke had spread to the 20th floor. The fire department cleared the building from the smoke, making it completely disappear. The police have yet to reveal the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
