- Wolfsburg's latest recruitment includes Slovakian European talent, Vavro.
VfL Wolfsburg found a substitute for French defender Maxence Lacroix in the last moments of the transfer window. The Bundesliga squad sealed a one-year loan agreement with Slovakian Euro 2020 participant Denis Vavro from Danish champions FC Copenhagen, including an option to buy.
Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano initially broke the news, which was subsequently verified by FC Copenhagen. Notably, new Wolfsburg sporting director Peter Christiansen had previous stints with the Danish champions.
Given Lacroix's impending transfer to Crystal Palace and Moritz Jenz's loan switch to FSV Mainz 05, Wolfsburg had a pressing need for a new defender. Based on media reports, the club also explored Dutchman Danilho Doekhi from Union Berlin, Frenchman Ismael Doukouré from Racing Strasbourg, and Austrian Kevin Danso from RC Lens.
The one-year loan agreement for Denis Vavro came as a relief during the period of transfer, as VfL Wolfsburg looked to replace Maxence Lacroix. The need for a new defender became pressing due to Lacroix's transfer to Crystal Palace and Moritz Jenz's loan move to FSV Mainz 05.
