Wolfsburg's Kovac: Just don't think too much

Coach Niko Kovac believes the reason for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg's results crisis is also mental. "We struggle a bit when our opponents put a bit more pressure on us in the second half," said Kovac ahead of the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday (20:30/DAZN). "I think that because the last few results weren't so good in the second half, the mind then starts to think. If your head thinks too much, then that can cause a certain fear and anxiety, which results in you making a lot more mistakes than in the first half."

In their last four league games, the club from Lower Saxony have lost three times in the second half. Nevertheless, Kovac was convinced by his team. "We're not lacking much at the moment," said the 52-year-old. "We always do well in the first half, then less well in the second half." Kovac also credited his players with strong phases in the game.

Looking at the season as a whole, Kovac is relaxed: "I can remember last season. We were a bit worse at that point and then it was quite good." Last season, the club from Lower Saxony were 13th in the table after ten matchdays, now they are ninth. After improving their performance, Wolfsburg only just missed out on the international places. The aim this season is to continue climbing.

Despite VfL Wolfsburg's struggles in maintaining their performance in the second half of Bundesliga matches, resulting in several losses, coach Niko Kovac believes in the team's abilities. In their recent game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Kovac's team managed to perform well in the first half, but failed to maintain the same level in the second, a pattern that has been consistent in their last four league games, all of which resulted in losses in the second half.
