German top-flight league - Wolfsburg names Christiansen as new sports head.
Peter Christiansen from Denmark is likely to take on the role of sporting director at German league team VfL Wolfsburg. Christiansen, aged 49, has headed professional football at top Danish club FC Copenhagen since 2021 and has led them this season to the Champions League round of 16, losing out to Bayern Munich in their group. His current contract with the Danes still stands, so Wolfsburg would have to compensate them financially.
The Danes publicly acknowledged on Wednesday that they're in discussions with another club regarding Christiansen's potential employment. Their statement read, "FC Copenhagen has received an inquiry from a foreign club concerning sporting director Peter Christiansen. The dialogue is not yet complete, and no agreements have been reached between the parties."
Christiansen will reportedly step in for Wolfsburg's former sporting director Marcel Schäfer, whose tenure ended in April. There are whispers that Schäfer may be joining RB Leipzig.
Sebastian Schindzielorz is anticipated to continue as the sporting director in Wolfsburg. He was also in the running for the general manager position. It's uncertain whether he will honor his contract with the team in Lower Saxony under Christiansen.
