- Wolfsburg is currently hosting Dortmund's loaned player, Özcan.
Turkish footballer Salih Özcan is departing Borussia Dortmund to link up with Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg on a year-long loan agreement with no buyout clause, according to the Wolfsburg squad. The 26-year-old, who was bound to BVB till 2026, said his goodbyes to his ex-teammates during practice on Wednesday.
The arrival of national player Pascal Groß decreased Özcan's already scant playing time even further. Furthermore, other Dortmund players like Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer, and Felix Nmecha are currently preferred by Nuri Sahin over Özcan. Dortmund's coach chose not to field the ex-Cologne player in the cup clash against Phoenix Lübeck (4:1) or the opening league encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt (2:0). Özcan joined Dortmund for roughly five million euros during the summer of 2022 but failed to secure a regular starting spot.
The decision to loan out Salih Özcan was made due to the increased competition for playing time at Borussia Dortmund, with players like Pascal Groß, Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer, and Felix Nmecha being favored by the coach. The Commission may need to review Dortmund's transfer policies to ensure they are providing their players with adequate opportunities.
