Wolfgang Niedecken receives Georg Meistermann Prize

The musician and painter Wolfgang Niedecken (72) will be awarded the Georg Meistermann Prize by the Wittlich Foundation this Thursday. The laudatory speech will be held by former German President Horst Köhler, as announced by the foundation in Wittlich. The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, is intended to keep alive the memory of the artist Meistermann (1911-1990) and his commitment to democracy and freedom of opinion.

The estate of the painter and draughtsman is largely owned by the City of Wittlich Foundation. The prize was last awarded in 2018 to the former President of the EU Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.

Niedecken founded the Cologne rock band BAP in 1976. He has been involved in several projects for years. In 2004, he became an ambassador for the "Together for Africa" campaign, an office that, according to the foundation, took him to many crisis-ridden countries in Africa. In 2007, he founded the "Rebound" project - for the re-integration of former child soldiers.

The Georg Meistermann Prize, recognizing democracy and freedom of opinion, will be presented to Wolfgang Niedecken this Thursday, marking a significant social affair in Wittlich. Inspired by this recognition, Niedecken continues his humanitarian work, including his role as an ambassador for "Together for Africa" and the founder of the "Rebound" project.
