Woidke remains dedicated to opposing the AfD in political activities.

In approximately three weeks, Brandenburg's state election is imminent. Following the elections in Saxony and Thuringia with a powerful AfD, SPD state leader Woidke plans to amplify the campaign's focus ahead of the elections.

Approaching Brandenburg's Election, Woidke Wants to Target AfD

Woidke, the SPD's leader in Brandenburg, plans to intensify the pre-election debates to pinpoint the AfD's stance. He said, "This implies we need to step up the conversation even more in this election campaign and possibly make the AfD's intentions in Brandenburg more crystal-clear." He made these remarks following the elections in Saxony and Thuringia. "The AfD represents the past," he added.

Woidke Notices Distinct Differences

Woidke, Brandenburg's top candidate, points out notable disparities between Brandenburg's and Saxony/Thuringia's elections. "It's a totally different sphere," he asserted. "Brandenburg holds a unique ground, particularly for the SPD in Brandenburg," Woidke claimed.

According to the latest Insa poll in August, the SPD in Brandenburg stands at 20 percent, trailing the AfD at 24 percent and the CDU at 19 percent. Brandenburg's domestic intelligence agency suspects the AfD of right-wing extremism.

Meanwhile, in Saxony, the CDU clinched the victory, while the AfD took second place. Conversely, in Thuringia, the AfD surged ahead of the CDU. The SPD garnered 7.3 percent of votes in Saxony and 6.1 percent in Thuringia.

Unphased by Polls

Despite trailing the AfD in current polls, Woidke remains optimistic. "I've dealt with such polls before, precisely five years ago," he shrugged off. "Even two days before the state election, we were predicted to finish second or third. Polls no longer worry me."

He is "absolutely convinced that we'll demonstrate within these coming weeks, and most notably on September 22, that these polls are wrong once again this year," the SPD politician was confident. Following Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer's win, Woidke commended Kretschmer for emitting a sense of stability and security during challenging times.

Woidke believes that the party atmosphere during the Brandenburg election campaign could help clarify the AfD's intentions more clearly. Despite the ongoing polls placing the SPD behind the AfD, Woidke is confident that a vibrant party environment will prove the polls wrong again.
