Task force for rail - Woidke: Railway working group has set the pace

The extension of the North Area of Bahnhof Könsigs Wusterhausen, the expansion of the Lubbenau-Cottbus track segment, or the electrification and expansion of the Cottbus-Görlitz section: The Brandenburg State Government and Deutsche Bahn drew a positive summary of cooperation at the last meeting of the joint working group on rail structural change.

"Through our good cooperation with the railway in the past nearly two years, we have brought momentum into the planning and approval processes as well as the construction around the transport hub and the railway station Cottbus," Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) stated after the meeting of the so-called Taskforce. This working group was founded in November 2022 to primarily accompany the construction of the ICE maintenance workshop in Cottbus.

In this context, important infrastructure projects around the railway node have been advanced. The working group contributed to the fact that the planning and approval processes had been accelerated, Woidke emphasized. "With the already ongoing and planned construction measures, Cottbus will be optimally connected to the long-distance transport network as well as to Saxony and Poland in the future," stated the Digital Managing Director of Deutsche Bahn, Daniela Gerd tom Markotten. The Minister-President expressed his intention to continue close cooperation: "We cannot afford to slacken now. There is still a lot to do."

  1. The interaction between the Brandenburg State Government and Deutsche Bahn has been instrumental in considering the potential expansion of the Lusatia railway, specifically the section from Lubbenau to Cottbus.
  2. Dietmar Woidke mentioned during the Taskforce meeting that the collaboration with the railroad has significantly expedited the planning and approval procedures for infrastructure projects in and around Cottbus, including the route section from Köning Wusterhausen to Brandenburg.
  3. As part of the project, Brandenburg and Deutsche Bahn aim to electrify and expand the Cottbus-Görlitz railroad section, which could potentially contribute to improving the connectivity of Cottbus with neighboring regions like Poland.
  4. In light of the ongoing and upcoming construction projects in Cottbus, the Minister-President of Brandenburg reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with Deutsche Bahn, emphasizing that there are still significant tasks to address in this endeavor.
