Woidke promises Jews a comprehensive fight against anti-Semitism

Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has promised Jews in the state the greatest possible protection against anti-Semitism. "We will not tolerate any anti-Semitic acts. We will not tolerate any anti-Semitic statements," said Woidke in the state parliament in Potsdam on Thursday. "We will not tolerate hatred and incitement against Jews on our streets or elsewhere. We will fight anti-Semitism effectively." He admitted: "Almost 80 years after the Holocaust, anti-Semitism is widespread here in Germany and around the world."

CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann emphasized: "We stand by you without ifs and buts." Left-wing MP Andreas Büttner said with regard to anti-Semitism: "We have not done enough." Green parliamentary group leader Petra Budke emphasized solidarity with Israel and warned against cutting support for democracy. The AfD parliamentary group accused the state government of importing anti-Semitism with the immigration of refugees. Woidke rejected this. Left-wing parliamentary group leader Sebastian Walter shouted "Nazi" in the direction of the AfD and was called to order by state parliament president Ulrike Liedtke.

In response to the widespread issue of anti-Semitism, Woidke highlighted the commitment of the Parliament in Brandenburg to not tolerate any form of anti-Semitic acts, statements, or incitement, especially against Jews. Recognizing the persistence of anti-Semitism even after nearly 80 years since the Holocaust, the Parliament emphasized the importance of fighting extremism in religion and other spheres of society.
