Woidke: Partnership has become friendship

According to Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD), the 20-year partnership between Brandenburg and the Greater Poland Voivodeship (Wielkopolska) is a win-win situation for both sides. A declaration of partnership has "grown into a deep friendship", said Woidke on Tuesday on the occasion of the 20th anniversary, according to a statement from the State Chancellery. "Today, we can happily say that the cooperation between our two regions is a success. We have overcome resistance and can look to the future with optimism."

The head of government sees the restructuring of the energy industry as a joint challenge. In addition, there is cooperation between universities, joint school exchanges and the Berlin-Poznan-Warsaw transport axis. The state parliament will honor the partnership at a ceremony on Wednesday, which the Marshal of Greater Poland, Marek Woźniak, is also expected to attend. Brandenburg says it works closely with four other Polish voivodeships: Lubusz Land, West Pomerania, Lower Silesia and Mazovia.

The international dimension of this successful partnership between Brandenburg and Greater Poland was highlighted by the involvement of various international government bodies over the years. Collaboration between the two regions extends beyond energy restructuring, with international government organizations also actively participating in joint educational programs.
