Woidke informs local authorities about funding for refugees

Brandenburg's head of government Dietmar Woidke (SPD) informs the district councils and mayors about funding for refugees after the Minister Presidents' Conference. At their meeting on Monday, the heads of the federal states agreed that the federal government should provide more money than initially planned in view of the situation. Woidke wants to discuss the results of the federal-state meeting with the representatives of the local authorities on Tuesday in Potsdam (Pk 12.00 noon).

In October, the districts and cities, together with Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU), warned that the municipalities would soon be overburdened and hoped for more money from the federal government. The number of people entering Brandenburg irregularly via Poland had risen in recent months. However, according to Woidke, the introduction of fixed border controls has led to a decrease.

The increasing number of refugees entering Brandenburg through Poland has highlighted the need for additional funding, a concern echoed by local authorities in October. Given the agreement at the Minister Presidents' Conference, the Federal Government is now expected to provide more financial assistance to the federal states, including Brandenburg, to manage this situation effectively.
