After the election victory - Woidke congratulates new head of government in Poland

Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has congratulated the new Polish head of government Donald Tusk and emphasized the special importance of Poland for Brandenburg. He hopes for a "new start in German-Polish relations, characterized by mutual respect at eye level", Woidke said in a statement on Wednesday. Brandenburg has a great interest in friendship and a trusting relationship with neighboring Poland.

"You have brought together the forces of the political center and many Poles have high hopes for the coming years," Woidke explained. They hoped for a policy of freedom, the rule of law and a prosperous, self-confident Poland - "firmly anchored in the European Union". The people of Poland had placed their trust in Tusk by a large majority. "I am convinced that this was a very good decision and I look forward to new impetus for cooperation, especially for us in the border region."

Tusk's new pro-European government was sworn in on Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, MPs had expressed their confidence in Tusk's government. The national-conservative PiS had previously been in power. The start of Tusk's government marks a fundamental change in Polish foreign policy.
