Prime Minister - Woidke calls for improvements to the planned federal budget
Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke considers the planned federal budget for the coming year to be in urgent need of improvement. The federal government must "make improvements and create a socially balanced budget", Woidke told the "Tagesspiegel" (weekend edition). The planned additional burdens on farmers, for example, jeopardized the competitiveness of farmers. In addition, commuters would be heavily burdened by the price increases for diesel and petrol due to the higher CO2 tax. This is incomprehensible to him; compensation is needed here.
Following the Federal Constitutional Court's budget ruling, the coalition government agreed on Wednesday how it intends to close the billion-euro gap in the 2024 federal budget. Savings and cuts are planned, which will also affect consumers in terms of electricity, gas and petrol prices. Savings are to be made primarily by abolishing climate-damaging subsidies, making cuts to the budgets of individual departments and reducing federal subsidies.

Dietmar Woidke, as the Minister President of Brandenburg, voiced his concerns about the impact of the proposed federal budget on his region's farmers and commuters in Potsdam. The Daily Mirror reported his criticism of the planned additional financial burdens due to higher CO2 taxes and subsidy cuts, which he believes could harm competitiveness and require compensation. In a separate development, the federal government, following the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling, agreed on strategies to address the billion-euro gap in the 2024 federal budget, involving savings and cuts on various consumer products and services, including energy sources.
