The chief executive of the nation. - Woidke aims to clarify politics post-AfD's electoral triumph.
Dietmar Woidke, the Minister President of Brandenburg and the SPD politician, emphasized the need for better communication of political decisions after the recent success of the AfD in European and municipal elections. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk, he stated, "We need to clarify things, we need to go out more to the people." As he also serves as the SPD state chairman, he expressed, "We have to demonstrate daily that democracy is functioning well."
Addressing the challenge, Woidke explained, "We're dealing with right-wing populists and sometimes right-wing extremists who exploit every mishap and uncertainty caused by our failure to communicate effectively."
There's a demand for answers to pressing political issues, Woidke mentioned, but these responses haven't been presented effectively. Some key topics include stopping 'irregular migration' promptly, preventing the burden on municipalities, and achieving successful integration. These are complex endeavors, and it's more straightforward to identify issues without addressing the solutions. "Populists have always thrived on naming problems without fixing them," Woidke added.
The AfD led in the European election on the previous Sunday with 27.5% in Brandenburg, followed by the CDU with 18.4%, new alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) with 13.8%, and the SPD with 13.1%. In the municipal elections, the AfD won with 25.7% of the votes, outdistancing the CDU with 19.3% and the SPD with 16.6%. Voters will elect a new state parliament in Brandenburg on September 22nd.
