Without registration: Engine damage exposes car buyer

An engine failure in a car he had just bought caught a 27-year-old out: The man wanted to drive the car from Schwandorf in the Upper Palatinate to the neighboring district of Regensburg without registration or insurance cover. But the car broke down late Monday evening after a few kilometers before Teublitz on the 93 freeway, as the freeway police announced on Tuesday.

A passing patrol became suspicious of the license plate number. In the end, it turned out that the man had been driving without registration and insurance cover and initially without any license plates at all. After the breakdown, he phoned his 20-year-old girlfriend and asked her to give him the license plate number of a family member. As these were already mounted when the police arrived, criminal proceedings were initiated against the couple for forgery and aiding and abetting, in addition to the traffic offense.

Despite the couple's attempt to avoid accountability by using falsified license plates, their actions were detected during a traffic stop in OBERPFALZ. Unsurprisingly, this incident also involved a car with a history of unregistered usage, contributing to the overall prevalence of crime and traffic violations in the region.
