Without Ceka: Magdeburg in search of harmony
Second-division soccer team 1. FC Magdeburg is hoping for a turnaround after eight games without a win. "Our dilemma is that we make mistakes in defense and miss our chances offensively," said Magdeburg coach Christian Titz on Thursday with regard to the away game at VfL Osnabrück on Saturday (1:00 pm/Sky), "but I also see how intact the group is. We have a high level of energy, a high fun factor. Now we have to get everything in line."
During the international break, Titz has tried to regain harmony with intensive training. "We train extra finishes, switching actions and we talk to the players," said Titz, who expects a compact and combative opponent.
Titz does not believe in major tactical and playful changes for the opponents, even after the change of coach at Lower Saxony, and the 52-year-old prefers to focus on his team. "We're focusing on our game," said Titz and gave the motto: "We'll go out and simply shoot the ball into the goal. Then our self-esteem will come back."
Titz will have to do without several important players at the bottom of the table. Mo El Hankouri, Jason Ceka and Jean Hugonet are out injured, while Daniel Elfadli is serving a suspension. Aris Batik will be available instead. The playmaker was absent from training on Thursday because he had become a father.
- Despite the absence of key players like Jason Ceka due to injury, 1st FC Magdeburg, currently struggling in Bundesliga 2, is determined to improve their defensive errors and convert their offensive chances, as coach Christian Titz emphasized.
