With pretzels: Patriots coach ahead of "unique" game
The second Frankfurt game of the NFL is a "unique experience" for the New England Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick said ahead of the game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday (3.30 pm/RTL and DAZN): "We've played a lot of NFL games, but this one will be a little different." According to the 71-year-old, the main thing is to regain focus. Although the Patriots are six-time Super Bowl champions, they are one of the weaker teams this season with seven defeats already. There is no time to analyze the team right now, "I'll worry about that later," said Belichick.
An earlier journey, as the Miami Dolphins did last week, was out of the question for the Patriots. "That's what we did for the games in London, same schedule," explained the coach. The players appeared rested, training early in the afternoon on the campus of the German Football Association (DFB). They did the same as Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs, who also arrived just before the first Frankfurt game a week earlier.
Belichick: "Certainly no compliments"
Belichick really likes Germany. "It's nice to be here, the people are nice, very hospitable." He hasn't seen much of Frankfurt so far - but: "There are pretzels," he added with a laugh. One or two German professionals have already played under the head coach. Sebastian Vollmer, among others, won the Super Bowl twice with him.
Belichick describes his former German protégés as hard-working team players. He added: "But when they mumbled something in German during training, it certainly wasn't a compliment."
The New England Patriots, known for their dominance in American Football, will face the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL's second game in Frankfurt. Coach Bill Belichick, with seven defeats this season, acknowledges the upcoming match against the Colts as "a little different."
Despite their NFL experience and six Super Bowl victories, the Patriots, like the Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs before them, are following a similar pre-game routine in Frankfurt, enjoying some traditional German pretzels alongside their preparations.
