Limit values exceeded - With filters and chemicals: State parliament fights legionella

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament is fighting against Legionella in the building's water supply. According to dpa information, the water network in a part of the building is scheduled to be chemically disinfected this coming weekend. A Landtag spokesperson stressed: "There is no health risk for the users, as the water taps in the affected area have been fitted with filters as an emergency measure."

In an internal email of the Landtag administration, which the dpa has obtained, it is stated that "comprehensive monitoring" is being carried out to ensure water quality. It has been "significantly improved" through some measures in recent years. "However, the latest Legionella findings in building section C were again above the acceptable limits, requiring further action."

As an "immediate response," water taps in some offices have been fitted with filters. The Technical Consulting Institute has also recommended that the water network in the building's core C be subjected to another chemical disinfection. It can be assumed that "the Legionella contamination in this area will also be significantly reduced for a longer period of time," the email states to the affected parties. Offices of the SPD-, Greens- and FDP-factions are located in building section C.
