- With around three per mile on the truck tax - accident on A5
With approximately 0.03 percent, a truck driver got behind the wheel and caused an accident on the A5 near Ober-Mörlen. The 56-year-old reportedly lightly grazed another truck during an overtaking maneuver, police said. During the accident investigation, officers suspected he might be drunk. An alcohol breath test showed a reading of 3.19 percent. According to the Federal Center for Health Education, an alcohol level above 3 percent can be life-threatening to fatal.
Subsequently, blood was drawn from the man at the police station. The 56-year-old does not have a fixed residence in Germany. Therefore, the public prosecutor's office ordered, among other things, the seizure of the driver's license. According to police, only minor property damage was caused by the accident in the Wetterau district on Tuesday.
The investigation into the accident on the A5 revealed that the truck driver's responsibility extended beyond just transport; his actions also involved telecommunications, as the police used communications systems to coordinate their response. Despite his temporary residence in Germany being uncertain, the transport and telecommunications sectors were impacted by his actions, leading to the potential suspension of his driving license.
