Wissing advocates for cost-savings in the railway sector and promotes improved punctuality in the short term.

The rail corporation is expected to present a restoration plan, adhering to directives from the government department. Implementation is set for 2027, with strict oversight: Key players for specific tasks need to update statuses every quarterly period. "I'll jump into action if we notice a slip up in the quarterly goals," stated Wissing.

Goals encompass enhancing punctuality, enhancing operational efficiency within the company, and boosting the usage of long-distance trains. The methods to achieve these objectives lie with the rail authority, asserted the transportation secretary. Furthermore, assessment and improvement of investment procedures, such as acquiring new trains, are in order, technology integration must progress, and the rail infrastructure must be fortified against environmental alterations due to climate change.

Wissing drew attention to earlier advancements made by the rail sector since the start of the legislative period, highlighting the birth of the non-profit infrastructure division of DB, the initiation of overall renovation works on principal routes, and the substantial upswing in financing for the rail sector. "We've made a down payment, now it's time for the rail sector to deliver."

The rail authority should focus on regular evaluations of the restoration plan's progress within the 'short term', ensuring adherence to the set objectives. Since the implementation of the plan is long-term, with goals set for 2027, frequent reviews will help in addressing any potential 'short-term' challenges.
