Winter weather causes various emergencies
With plenty of snow and ice, there were also a number of police operations in Thuringia at the weekend. Most of these were traffic accidents. However, the situation was far removed from the situation in southern Germany, which was characterized by heavy snowfall, said a spokesperson for the state police operations center on Sunday.
Railroad line closed
According to the federal police, a truck with a trailer crashed into the noise barrier next to a railroad line between Weimar and Apolda on Sunday morning, probably due to slippery snow. The truck had to be recovered and the railroad line closed for several hours. No one was injured.
Emergency call system leads to the person responsible for the accident
According to police reports, a 21-year-old woman skidded off the snow-covered road between Auma and Braunsdorf in the Greiz district on Saturday and crashed into the crash barrier. The woman drove away from the scene of the accident without informing the police. The police were nevertheless able to locate the person responsible for the accident, as the car's automatic emergency call system had automatically informed the rescue coordination center. The vehicle registration number was also transmitted.
Sliding into oncoming traffic on a bend
On Friday, a 34-year-old woman had already skidded her car into oncoming traffic on a bend on a wintry road in Luisenthal (Gotha district) and collided with another car. According to the police, the other driver was slightly injured. The damage to property amounted to around 15,000 euros.
10,000 euros property damage in Nordhausen district, 7000 in Weimar
Six accidents on slippery roads in the district of Nordhausen between Friday and Sunday morning resulted in property damage amounting to more than 10,000 euros. Nobody was injured. A chain reaction of sorts was triggered in Schöndorf near Weimar on Saturday when a 26-year-old woman crashed her car into two parked cars on a slippery road. The impact caused these to be pushed onto another parked car. The property damage in this case amounted to 7000 euros.
In the Ilm district, a 41-year-old man skidded off the road in his car between Gillersdorf and Herschdorf and ended up in the ditch when he tried to avoid a fox on Saturday evening. Both driver and fox were unharmed, according to the police. However, the car was totaled and had to be recovered.
Emergency off the road too
But it wasn't just drivers who got into emergencies: for example, officers helped in the search for a skier who had lost his way in the Suhl-Gehlberg area on Saturday evening. Police officers and other helpers were able to find the 48-year-old quickly, according to the Suhl inspection service on Sunday. The recreational skier was exhausted but uninjured.
