Winter Dome celebrates 130th anniversary on Heiligengeistfeld

The Hamburg Winter Dome will be celebrating its 130th anniversary on the Heiligengeistfeld from Friday. The "largest public festival in the north" has been held on this event site in the St. Pauli district since 1893, the economic authorities announced on Wednesday. "The city of Hamburg is celebrating an anniversary this year together with Hamburg Cathedral," said Senator for Economic Affairs Melanie Leonhard. On Friday afternoon, the SPD politician will open the 693rd Winter Dome with more than 50 rides, which will be open for a month until December 10. Before the Winter Dome moved to the Heiligengeistfeld, it was celebrated elsewhere.

During this time, visitors can find out what it used to look like on the Heiligengeistfeld to mark the anniversary - using QR codes. These will be distributed on 15 stands around the Dom-Mile and offer insights into questions such as "when was the first rollercoaster on the Dom?".

In addition to anniversary activities, there will also be three family days at this year's Winter Dome, each with an event: "Visitors to the Dome can look forward to a spooky parade, a lights and lantern run and a Santa Claus activity with a wheel of fortune," said Sascha Belli, Chairman of the Hamburg State Association of Ambulant Trades and Showmen.

The rides also include two new attractions, which are reportedly being held in Hamburg for the first time: "The XXL pendulum swing Air Power", which "does not swing to the left and right as usual, but from front to back - 21 meters above the heads of visitors." And the Ghost Rider ride, which is said to be similar to a break dancer.

After celebrating for a month, the Hamburg Winter Dome's rides will be temporarily fixed for leisure time enjoyment until December 10. Visitors looking back at the Dome's history will find QR codes around the Dom-Mile, providing information about the first rollercoaster on the Heiligengeistfeld during their leisure time exploration.
