Statistics - Winter cereal acreage down in Brandenburg
The area sown to winter cereals in Brandenburg has become smaller. The area shrank by two percent to 432,200 hectares in the fall compared to the previous year, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office on Tuesday. The most important type of grain, winter wheat, was cultivated on 153,100 hectares. That is three percent less than in fall 2022.
Winter rye cultivation is also declining. Farmers reported two percent less acreage. This is the third year in a row that the area under cultivation has fallen. According to the statisticians, not since 1991 has so little winter rye been cultivated in Brandenburg.
The acreage of triticale - a cross between wheat and rye - and winter rapeseed also declined. Only winter barley saw an increase in acreage to 106,500 hectares. This is the largest area under cultivation since 1991.
