Will Smith's Evolved Journey: Caterpillar to Butterfly

The power to come back to life is intrinsically human, and this is how Will Smith depicts his current state following the Oscar controversy, which occurred in Berlin two years ago.

Almost two years have passed since the slap incident at the Oscars, and Hollywood actor Will Smith (55) now feels rebirthed, like a butterfly. At the European premiere of the film "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" (out on June 5), he told reporters in Berlin that "the ultimate human ability" is to transform oneself, heal, and be reborn. Illustrating his point, he described the process of a caterpillar decomposing and dying until it becomes a butterfly.

This revelation comes two and a half years after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony in 2022. The incident happened when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's short hair, which was a result of her medical hair loss. Will Smith apologized, and was banned from attending Academy events for ten years.

During the Berlin premiere, Will Smith seemed much more at ease. He admitted that it was more challenging for him to get back in shape for the new movie, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," taking six months instead of the usual three. He partly attributed this to his age and partly joked about his love for donuts.

In this film, the four-time collaboration between Will Smith and German-American actor Martin Lawrence (59) brings the dynamic "Bad Boys" police duo Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett back to the big screen in Miami. The franchise's debut installment, "Bad Boys - Harte Jungs," came out in 1995. It was followed by two more films in 2003 and 2020.

"Bad Boys: Ride or Die" showcases the duo stumbling upon a corruption scandal and getting caught up in a conspiracy, which force them to escape.
