1st FC Heidenheim - "Will be on the alert immediately": Coach Schmidt warns against Mainz

Coach Frank Schmidt of 1. FC Heidenheim is preparing for an intense basement duel at FSV Mainz 05. He expects that "there will be an alarm immediately", said the 49-year-old one day before the match on Saturday (3.30 pm/Sky). Mainz are in penultimate place in the Bundesliga ahead of the 15th matchday, while Heidenheim are 13th. The match is very important for both teams, explained Schmidt.

It is the duel between the weakest home team and the weakest away team in the current season. FCH have only picked up one point away from home - a 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of September. Schmidt explained that his team would have to take to the pitch "with a great deal of conviction and commitment". Mainz would certainly "try to put us under pressure right from the start." There will be no long wait-and-see approach.

Heidenheim attacker Denis Thomalla is out due to illness. The appearances of defenders Omar Traoré and Marnon Busch are still questionable, the coach reported.

According to Schmidt, it is still too early for him to draw any interim conclusions. However, "everything is within reason", he said, referring to the 14 points the promoted team has collected so far. If they continue to hover around this points average, they have every chance of ultimately achieving their goal of staying in the league.
