Process - Wife abused and threatened with hammer: six years in prison
A 50-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison by the Frankfurt Regional Court on Tuesday for abusing his separated wife and threatening her with a hammer. The judges ruled that the March 2022 offense was particularly serious extortion. (AZ 3630 Js 224101/22)
According to the court, the man had been unemployed after being dismissed by his long-term employer. On the day of the crime, he punched the woman and pulled out a tuft of her hair. He then took a hammer out of his pocket and announced that he would kill the 49-year-old woman if she did not give him money. In court, he only admitted to the encounter in the elevator of the high-rise building they shared in Frankfurt-Eckenheim and denied the acts of violence. However, the criminal court ultimately believed the wife, who was questioned in detail. The verdict is not yet final.
