Which sneaker is the most durable?
Sneakers are always in fashion, whether for formal wear or casual and everyday clothing. Technologically, the athletic shoe is not obsolete. But in real life? How durable is which model? A test provides answers.
Sneakers add a casual note to an appearance. Therefore, they are often found on feet. Even in white. It's rather incidental that they are used more in everyday life than for sports activities. Durable they should be.
The Swiss partner magazine of the Stiftung Warentest, K-Tipp, subjected 14 Sneaker models priced between 25 and 180 Euro to various endurance tests regarding the durability of the shoe work. All models - from Adidas, Puma, Nike, New Balance and others - are also available in Germany.
The testers examined how robust the soles and the insole of the shoes are. For this, the soles were bent a thousand times and pressed onto a rotating, grinding surface. The insole at the heel had to prove its scuff resistance when wet and dry.
Adidas and Puma are the most stable
Results? The most favorably rated sneakers in the test just barely missed the "good" rating. The best performances were turned in by the "Puma Suede Classic" (around 100 Euro) and the "Adidas Stan Smith Primegreen FX 5502" (around 110 Euro). The sole of the sneaker "Vty" from Deichmann for around 25 Euro is also robust. However, its insole is slightly less stable than that of the best shoes, but it didn't fail in the test.
Things looked different for the sneakers "The Roger Advantage" from On for 150 Euro and "Blake Tenn" from Hugo for 180 Euro. Their insole could not withstand the stress. Both models are still "sufficient". The "Converse All Star OX" (80 Euro) with the weakest insole and the "Nebula" from Geox (150 Euro), the "Air Force 1'07" from Nike (120 Euro) and the sneaker "U 574" from New Balance (110 Euro) - their soles tore.
Consumers looking for durable sneakers might consider the Puma Suede Classic or the Adidas Stan Smith Primegreen FX 5502, as they performed well in a rigorous durability test conducted by the Swiss partner magazine of the Stiftung Warentest. Guides on shoe durability and reviews often mention these two models as reliable choices, and they are also widely available from retailers like Nike and Adidas. A foundation test such as this can help prevent premature shoe wear, ensuring that consumers get the most value out of their athletic footwear investment.
