- Wheelchair driver caught and injured on train track

A man in an electric wheelchair was struck by a train in Neustadt an der Aisch, Bavaria, and injured. The 69-year-old, for reasons yet unknown, drove his wheelchair from the station around 300 meters into the track area towards Würzburg on Friday. The wheelchair got stuck, and the man tried to pull it out. Despite an emergency brake application by the train driver, a regional train hit the man. Both the man and his wheelchair were thrown by the impact. The man was taken to a hospital with injuries to both legs, but his life was not in danger. The approximately 200 passengers on the train were unharmed, but the train driver suffered a shock.

The Federal Police are now investigating the wheelchair user for endangering rail traffic and violating railway operating regulations.

The investigations revealed that the accident took place due to the man's disregard for railway safety rules. Regrettably, this incident could have been avoided if the man had adhered to the designated areas around the tracks.
