- What's the yield situation in Schleswig-Holstein this season?
As summer winds down, it's evident which agricultural producers in Schleswig-Holstein are coming out on top. The Ministry of Agriculture, the Farmers' Association, and the Chamber of Agriculture will present a mid-year review on Thursday (10:00 AM) in Ottendorf, near Kiel.
At the start of the year, persistent rain posed several challenges for these farmers. In certain areas, a segment of the winter crops got washed away due to flooded fields. The rain continued to pour as much as the sun shone. This excessive rainfall hampered the harvest, affecting different areas and periods unequally.
At the end of July, the North Statistics Office released an initial projection, predicting a slightly larger grain yield compared to 2024. This would amount to approximately 2.2 million tons. That's only about 1% larger than last year's yield but 5% lower than the six-year average.
Despite the challenges posed by the excessive rainfall in the beginning of the year, some resilient agricultural producers in Schleswig-Holstein managed to overcome these obstacles and excel in their crop yields. The Mid-Year Agriculture Review, to be held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Farmers' Association, and the Chamber of Agriculture, will undoubtedly highlight these successful practices in farming.
