There are things that shouldn't be kept at home. In general, under certain conditions, you can do almost anything in your own home. For example, fill the pantry with favorite snacks and sweets, hang the closet with favorite clothes, or peacefully engage in your hobby.

However, it is essential to understand that there are certain limitations on storing various items. Here are 4 things not recommended to keep at home.

1. Precious metals

If you want to invest your money, there are many options, including gold.

Currently, you can get a kilogram of gold (as of October 10, 2023) for approximately 57,000 euros. Precious metal, cast in the form of bars, is easy to handle and store.

It might seem tempting to hide such a bar in a drawer or a secret compartment behind a picture frame. In reality, such a storage place is only suitable to a limited extent. It is important to remember that gold bars are an ideal target for burglars.

Another drawback is that home insurance applies only if gold and other precious metals are stored in a safe according to the rules. For a safe to be considered, it must have various test seals. This is undoubtedly a complex and costly affair.

2. Large amounts of cash

It is not prohibited to keep large sums of money at home. It is not a crime.

However, it is not advisable to keep large amounts of cash at home. Banknotes are relatively small and convenient, making them a desirable target for burglars.

3. Important documents

Various documents require special protection. In particular, fires or water damage can be fatal. Usually, it is impossible to guarantee the necessary protection in your own home. Although there are special fireproof safes for documents, they are usually not cheap.

Therefore, it is recommended to always keep the original separately from the copy. Of course, one version can be kept at home, but the other is recommended to be kept, for example, in a bank safe.

4. Ashes urn

Saying goodbye to a loved one is not easy. If relatives decide on cremation, it is necessary to clarify where to bury the deceased. Especially in American movies, you can often see an urn finding its place in a family home.

In Germany, this is impossible. There is a burial law that includes the obligation to bury deceased people only in designated places, including urns. Those who do not fulfill this obligation and, for example, cremate the deceased abroad and then bury them in their own garden, can expect a fine.

Given the text, here are two sentences that contain the words "safe" and "safes" and follow the context:

  1. For a safe to be considered by home insurance, it must have various test seals, making it a complex and costly affair.
  2. There are special fireproof safes for documents, but they are usually not cheap.
