Bundesliga - Werder under pressure: "Many teams are struggling"
Werder Bremen are under enormous pressure ahead of their Bundesliga home match against FC Augsburg. After four games without a win, their lead over the relegation places has dwindled to two points. "Many teams are finding it extremely difficult to pick up points. You know how important every single point is," said coach Ole Werner on Thursday at the press conference for this game (Saturday, 3.30pm/Sky). As 13th in the table, Werder are in the bottom third of the Bundesliga which, according to Werner, "hasn't picked up too many points for this period of the season".
Opponents Augsburg have freed themselves from this third with new coach Jess Thorup. "On the one hand, everyone around them always underestimates them a bit," said the Bremen coach full of respect. "On the other hand, they've been in the Bundesliga for so long that you have to say - even though they're still perceived as outsiders - that they have substance in the club and the ability to invest that other clubs no longer have. And they use that very cleverly."
