Soccer - Werder coach Werner misses consistency on the road

Werder Bremen simply can't win away from home anymore. The 2:2 (1:1) draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening gave Werder their second away point of the season. However, coach Ole Werner's team have now gone ten games without a three-point haul away from home this season.

"What's missing is that we're just as consistent away from home as we are at home," complained Werner, who was nevertheless very satisfied with his team's performance - unlike midfielder Mitchell Weiser. "We can be happy to have got a point at all," the 29-year-old grumbled.

Both of Werder's goals, scored by Rafael Borré (7th minute) and Marvin Duksch (76th), came after serious positioning errors in the Gladbach defense. After a brace from Gladbach's shooting star Rocco Reitz (45th/49th), Borussia were much closer to victory at one stage. "We allowed ourselves a phase that was immediately punished," said Weiser. "We gave that away too easily." At least Marvin Ducksch set a Werder record, according to statistics service provider Opta. The international scored ten away goals this year - a feat previously only achieved by Rudi Völler (1983 and 1985).

Werder Bremen's struggle for consistency extends beyond their home turf, as they've failed to secure a win in their last ten away games in the Bundesliga. Ole Werner, the Werder coach, lamented the lack of consistency on the road during their 2:2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Despite the draw, Werner recognized his team's performance, but midfielder Mitchell Weiser expressed dissatisfaction, stating that they should have secured all three points. The Gladbach defense's positioning errors contributed to both of Werder's goals, scored by Rafael Borré and Marvin Duksch. Rudi Völler's record for scoring the most away goals in a single year for Werder was surpassed by Marvin Ducksch, who scored ten away goals during the season, according to Opta's statistics.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, Borussia Mönchengladbach fared better, with their shooting star Rocco Reitz scoring twice in their match against Werder Bremen, putting the home team closer to victory. Werder's lack of consistency on the road is concerning for coach Werner, as the team looks to improve its standings in the Bundesliga. Regardless of the outcome, the match between Werder Bremen and SV Werder Bremen is sure to be an exciting one, and soccer fans in Germany will be eager to see how the two teams perform.
