German Football League - Werder Bremen acquires Hansa's captain Kolke.

Werder Bremen has signed goalkeeper Markus Kolke from relegated Hansa Rostock. The two clubs made the announcement on Friday. Kolke, 33, will serve as the third goalkeeper for Werder, behind Michael Zetterer and Mio Backhaus. Despite being a top-choice goalkeeper for Rostock who had a contract until 2026 after their relegation, Werder paid a release fee for Kolke.

"Markus is a great fit for our requirements," said Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen's professional football director. "We were searching for an experienced keeper who can push Michael Zetterer and Mio Backhaus during training and also contribute with his experience in the locker room."

Kolke spent five years with Hansa and even served as their captain. Regarding his decision to join Bremen as a backup goalkeeper, Kolke said, "I chose this path willingly and see myself as an experienced backup. I know I won't get many playing opportunities with the pros, but I'll be ready whenever I'm needed."
