Bundesliga - "We'll keep going": Darmstadt with courage after Hoffenheim
Despite eight games without a win in a row, SV Darmstadt 98, who are bottom of the Bundesliga table, continue to take heart. "We'll keep going! Giving up is not an option," said coach Torsten Lieberknecht ahead of the away game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Tuesday (20:30/Sky).
The team was admittedly downbeat after the recent 1-0 defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg. On the other hand, points were possible in many games in recent weeks. "That's exactly what makes me optimistic," emphasized the 50-year-old coach on Monday.
With the exception of the games against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, they have always shown "that we have a real chance. We will do everything we can to seize this opportunity."
However,Lieberknecht did not want to hide the fact that the negative series is affecting his professionals. "The lads are disappointed. It wears you down when it's always your turn and you can get more," said Lieberknecht.
In the last game before the winter break, he is calling for another rebellion. "Everyone has to get everything out of themselves. I miss that from time to time. I've told them that in no uncertain terms." There needs to be more internal competition. "Sometimes the boys are a bit too sweet for me. They need to pull themselves together even more," said Lieberknecht.
Hoffenheim, who are seventh in the table, are once again missing a number of injured professionals. "Nobody who was missing against Wolfsburg will be back," said Lieberknecht. "As things stand, it will be the same squad as against VfL."
