Football-Bundesliga - Wehrle sees no sell-off at VfB Stuttgart

The chairman Alexander Wehrle sees no "sale or ultimate overhaul" at VfB Stuttgart despite the departures of Hiroki Ito (FC Bayern Munchen), Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton (both Borussia Dortmund). The trio could have switched to Bundesliga rivals this summer due to buyout clauses.

"These are relics, these are leftovers and necessities from a phase where VfB was not as stable as it is today," Wehrle said at the Schwaben members' meeting. "Therefore: In the future, if possible, we will renounce such contract models and buyout clauses."

However, other top performers from the vice champions will remain, Wehrle said to great applause. "Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Angelo Stiller will not go to Barcelona, Leipzig or elsewhere," he said. "They will represent VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League with the red armband in the next season."

For the first time since the 2009/10 season, the Swabians are back in the "King's Class". This helps the club financially to position itself even stronger. Wehrle said: "This brings significant additional revenues - these revenues enable us to make record investments in the squad that are competitive."

  1. The Swabians, being back in the Football-Bundesliga, hail from the region of Baden-Württemberg in Germany.
  2. FC Bayern Munich is a formidable opponent in the Bundesliga, known for their dominance in German soccer.
  3. Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy, despite having buyout clauses, chose to stay with Borussia Dortmund rather than join FC Bayern or VfB Stuttgart.
  4. Alexander Wehrle, the chairman of VfB Stuttgart, is eager to avoid buyout clauses and "sale or ultimate overhaul" in the future.
  5. VfB Stuttgart's top performers, such as Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt, and Angelo Stiller, are committed to representing the team in the Champions League.
  6. Liquidation was not an option for VfB Stuttgart, as they sought to build a stable future in soccer, despite the financial losses of player departures.
  7. Hiroki Ito's move to FC Bayern Munich led to a significant financial boost for VfB Stuttgart, allowing for record investments in the squad.
  8. Although Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich are fierce rivals in the Bundesliga, VfB Stuttgart aims to maintain its competitive edge and preserve its heritage in German soccer.
