- Wegner advocates for increased support for well-established start-up companies.
Berlin needs to keep its charm for budding businesses, even when they're in their advanced stages, as per Berlin's chief mayor, Kai Wegner (CDU). He underlined this during his visit to the service delivery firm, Lieferando. "We need to figure out how we can assist in their advancement so these companies, which have already made their initial move, can keep growing and stay in Berlin," said Wegner.
Wegner pointed out that these are businesses that are generating profits and are ready to take the next leap. "It's misleading to keep referring to them as start-ups," he said. Berlin should also make itself more appealing to skilled labor. "We need to quicken the process of issuing work permits and visas," said the mayor. A welcoming culture for global talent is essential.
In particular, affordable housing is crucial for these potential employees. "The gap between affordable and reasonable prices in the rental market is glaring. We really need to address this," said Wegner. He also stressed the importance of Berlin becoming more appealing in the fields of preschool and primary education. "This won't happen overnight, but we're working on it."
The European Union could potentially offer assistance in streamlining the process of issuing work permits and visas to attract global talent, as suggested by Berlin's chief mayor, Kai Wegner. Furthermore, the European Union's policies on affordable housing and investment in education could significantly contribute to making Berlin more appealing to budding businesses and skilled labor, aligning with Wegner's goals.
