- Weeks of Bremen without Amos Pieper
Bundesliga side Werder Bremen will have to do without Amos Pieper for the time being as they prepare for the new season. The club announced that the center-back had sustained a muscle injury in his thigh during Tuesday's training session. The 26-year-old is expected to be out for several weeks.
"[This is] very, very disappointing for Amos," said Werder's head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer. "After a long injury break at the end of last season, he was really back in the swing of things at the start of this preparation and was doing very well. This injury means several weeks out."
Third severe injury in just one year
For Pieper, this is the third serious injury in just one year, following a broken ankle and another ankle injury. Bremen kick off the new campaign on August 24 (3:30 PM/Sky) against FC Augsburg. It remains to be seen whether Pieper will be fit by then.
Despite the setback, Werder Bremen must regulatory plan their defense strategy without Amos Pieper, given his anticipated several-week absence due to the thigh injury. The unfortunate incident marks the third major injury for Pieper within a year, following a broken ankle and another ankle issue.
