- weekly incidences of forest fires are highest in Brandenburg
Following the week marked by the most significant forest blazes this year, Brandenburg's firefighters tackling forest fires are finally receiving a break. Philipp Haase, the deputy forest fire protection officer in Brandenburg, highlighted that this past week saw a whopping 31 forest fires. Regrettably, this week recorded the highest number of forest fires this year. However, the recent rainfall and cooling temperatures have brought down the forest fire risk, providing a brief respite, according to Haase.
Thus far this year, 187 forest fires have occurred, covering an area of 222 hectares, as reported by Haase. Around 172 hectares were impacted by a forest fire close to Jüterbog recently. To put things into perspective: Last year, there were 251 forest fires that result in a damage area of 765 hectares. As per Haase, the ongoing forest fire season is set to conclude in late September. Until then, there's a chance that the forest fire risk might escalate if the dry spell continues.
Despite the intense forest fire activity this year, particularly at The Potsdam, the recent rainfall and cooling temperatures have momentarily reduced the fire risk. Assisting in controlling the situation, The Potsdam experienced a significant decrease in forest fire activity due to the favorable weather conditions.
