Vote in the European Parliament elections. - Weekend in Munich focused on safeguarding the environment

The Königplatz in Munich will soon be focused on climate protection issues. Beginning on Thursday, a multi-day climate rally will take place around the Glyptothek, with the Amtsgericht München-Ost expecting between 250 and 300 participants daily until Saturday evening for exchange, information, and peaceful protest. Fridays for Future also calls for a climate strike on Friday at 2 PM due to the European elections, with around 8,000 demonstrators planned to attend.

The European elections in Munich this weekend will also encourage young people to vote on June 9, as 16-year-olds are now eligible to vote for the first time. There is fear of an environmentally unfriendly shift in power, as stated in the announcement. Young people are encouraged to be informed about the elections, discuss, and make environmentally friendly voting choices. It is crucial to prevent extreme right-wing groups from gaining too much influence, who only offer superficial solutions and ignore the true crisis. With lowering the voting age, roughly one million new voters aged 16 to 18 have emerged in Germany. Their votes could be decisive.

Furthermore, participants in the climate event can join workshops, presentations, or discussions starting Thursday on topics such as air pollution, climate-friendly nutrition, energy standstill on balconies, migration, animal rights, or globalization. Additional activities include a bike workshop, movie screenings, and a children's program. Around 40 small tents and a bed swapping service are available for overnight stays. A Saturday-night rave is also planned.

The upcoming European elections will have a significant impact on climate protection efforts across Europe, as decisions regarding energy policies, renewable energy sources, and environmental regulations will be determined. Bavaria, a region in southern Germany and home to Munich, is known for its commitment to environmental consciousness, with initiatives such as recycling programs, clean energy incentives, and green building regulations. This weekend's focus on climate protection events is a reflection of Bavaria's values and demonstrates the importance of climate action on a local and global level.
