Ice - Weather remains uncomfortable: slippery roads and rail problems
Drivers and pedestrians in Baden-Württemberg must be prepared for roads and paths that are slippery in places on Monday. According to a spokesperson for the German Weather Service (DWD) in Stuttgart, rainfall is possible throughout the state during the course of the day. "If rain falls in the frost we're currently experiencing, that means black ice," said the spokesperson. You don't need a lot of rain for that. "A few drops are enough and it can become slippery as glass."
There were already isolated cases of dangerous black ice in the Rhine Valley in the morning. During the course of the day, the precipitation front will move further east. In the evening and during the night, freezing rain and black ice should also be expected along the Bavarian border as well as on the Alb and in Upper Swabia.
There will also be more snowfall in the mountains. "One to three centimetres of fresh snow is possible by tomorrow morning", said the spokesperson. It could be particularly dangerous if snow and freezing rain alternate. "I don't want to rule out the possibility of a few more snowflakes falling on the ice - and then you won't be able to see the ice anymore," explained the DWD spokesperson.
Rail passengers also have to be prepared for further problems. Following the onset of winter in southern Germany, delays and train cancellations are expected to continue until the middle of the week, Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday morning. According to a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman in Stuttgart, restrictions and cancellations are still being experienced in the very south of Baden-Württemberg in particular.
Traffic was still interrupted between Schaffhausen and Waldshut-Tiengen, Schaffhausen and Singen, Friedrichshafen and Radolfzell, Constance and Singen and Titisee and Seebruck. According to the spokesperson, trees had fallen or branches had fallen into the overhead line. There are still restrictions between Kressbronn and Lindau. "We are trying to get everything sorted out during the course of the day so that we can start again on all routes tomorrow," said the spokesperson.
Traffic on the Gäubahn between Stuttgart and Singen had been resumed with individual long-distance trains. However, Deutsche Bahn expected the train service to be very limited at first. The spokeswoman said that passengers should always check the railroad's website before setting off.
The main station in Munich is currently only accessible to a very limited extent. The railroad is therefore expecting very high capacity utilization of the trains and recommends postponing journeys to and from Munich.
It is expected to get warmer again on Tuesday. Up to two degrees are expected on the Baar and up to almost nine degrees on the Rhine, according to the DWD. In the Black Forest, it may snow again above 600 meters, otherwise there will be some rain in places.

The Rhine Valley has already experienced dangerous black ice in the morning.
