Last week, the State Audit Office carried out an inspection at the Police College in Aschersleben regarding the improper handling of weapons and ammunition. According to State Audit Office President Kay Barthel, there was a joint inventory during the inspection. The State Criminal Police Office had loaned some objects to the Police College.

However, Barthel did not reveal any details about the findings during the audit. When asked about possible shortcomings, such as the alleged disappearance of weapons from the LKA's weapons collection in Aschersleben, he declined to comment. The Interior Ministry, the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), and the Police College also chose to stay silent on the matter. The spokesperson for the Interior Ministry attributed this to the fact that the audits of the State Audit Office are not yet finished.

In January, the State Audit Office disclosed severe deficiencies in the storage of evidence within the Asservatenverwaltung. This led to the discovery of violations in the LKA's comparison weapons collection, which is used for training purposes. The investigation of this issue is still ongoing.

The Police College had previously admitted to issues with storage in a separate case. During an inspection, it was discovered that ammunition was stored in larger quantities and in partially unsealed boxes in the offices of police trainers. In response to this incident, the Police College immediately ordered that the training ammunition be stored correctly, and over 5,000 training ammunition cartridges were moved to the appropriate storage. They also stated that there is no evidence that training ammunition has left the premises of the Police College.
