Wax explosion in house: several apartments damaged

While trying to extinguish a wax fire, a woman in Munich accidentally triggered an explosion. The blast wave in the apartment building also damaged the neighboring apartment and the apartment below, the fire department announced on Tuesday. According to her own statements, the 60-year-old woman had wanted to pour candles in her apartment in the Au district. To do so, she heated wax in a pot, which eventually caught fire, it said.

When the woman tried to extinguish the approximately 280-degree wax with water, the wax exploded, according to the fire department. The resident then managed to extinguish the flames with blankets. She was then taken to hospital with second-degree burns to her neck and hands, according to a fire department spokesperson. Apart from the 60-year-old woman, there were no injuries.

Since the wax fire resulted in an explosion, causing damage to nearby apartments, there's a risk of more fires or accidents in Upper Bavaria due to improper handling of flammable materials. Following this incident, it's essential for residents in Upper Bavaria to adhere to safety guidelines when working with wax or candles to prevent similar accidents.
