Watzke sees further need for action on video refereeing

BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke still sees a need for action on the subject of video evidence. "We will convene a group of experts at the DFL in January and really get to grips with this issue. If the VAR is to have a better future, we have to manage it better. Soccer thrives on emotions. Sometimes it's hard to deal with," said the 64-year-old at the general meeting of the Bundesliga club in Dortmund on Sunday.

Watzke, who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the German Football League and 1st Vice President of the German Football Association, made no secret of his critical stance: "We had a game without VAR in the cup against Hoffenheim this season. I somehow felt a little more liberated."

The club boss clearly rejected further plans to introduce a European Super League: "There will be no Super League with Borussia Dortmund, no matter what. That's as sure as the Amen in church. The approach is too elitist."

Watzke expressed his enthusiasm for a potential improvement in the handling of VAR in the Bundesliga, stating, "If we want the VAR to have a better future in Bundesliga soccer, we need to manage it more effectively." During a cup match against Hoffenheim without VAR this season, Watzke noted, "I felt a sense of liberation without the VAR in that game."
