Tourism - Water sports: paradisiacal conditions in Schleswig-Holstein
In several German states, the summer holidays have begun - for the vacation land Schleswig-Holstein, this means high season. "Many tourists ask themselves what they can do in the northernmost German state when there is no beach weather," said a spokesperson for the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency (TASH). "Water sports should not only be practiced at the North or East Sea, but also in the interior. The real north can also be discovered from the many rivers and lakes in the interior."
At the North Sea and on Fehmarn, surf courses are particularly popular. However, North Friesland can also be explored by canoe, according to TASH. A beautiful route starts from Sprakebüll in the North Friesland district and leads past grazing cows and sheep to the Bottshlotter See at Dagebüll. A canoe ramp allows for easy entry, making the route suitable for families with children as well.
The Kreis Ostholstein offers opportunities for longer canoe tours as well. For example, the approximately 55 kilometer long waterway along the Schwentine river runs from the Redderkrug at the Großer Eutiner See to the Kieler Förde. The tourist information of the city of Eutin reportedly offers multiple-day package deals like "Bike & Boot," which combines two sporting passions.
According to TASH, one of the most beautiful canoeing areas in Schleswig-Holstein is the Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape west of Rendsburg. "The canoeing area is well-developed, a 'Yellow Wave' indicates marked rest and entry/exit points from a distance," said the spokesperson. Further canoeing areas of various difficulty levels can be found on the Lauenburgian Sees, on the rivers Trave and Bille, and on the Eider with the Grachtenstadt Friedrichstadt.
According to TASH, there are almost everywhere offers for stand-up paddling at the East Sea. "Among them are also yoga courses on the paddleboard at the East Sea island of Fehmarn," said the spokesperson.
On the Wakenitz river near Lübeck, there is an opportunity for less sporty water tourists to book a one-way tour to the Ratzeburger See with a paddle boat. For the return journey, a passenger ship is available. "On the way, there is a chance to observe eider ducks, herons, sea eagles, and ring snakes," so the spokesperson.
