- Water samples in certain areas of Calw have been identified as containing bacteria.
Due to impurities in the city's water supply, locals in specific areas of Calw are suggested to heat up their faucet water. The local administration revealed that the threshold for enterococci in the drinking water of districts such as Hirsau, Ernstmühl, and certain parts of the city center has been surpassed.
Enterococci are microorganisms that typically inhabit the human digestive system but can also bring about various illnesses. The origin of the contamination in the tap water is yet to be determined and is under investigation, as pointed out by a spokesperson from the city administration.
To eliminate any potential health hazard, it is immediately advised to bring the faucet water to a boil. According to the city announcement, this applies to water used for consumption, cooking, beverages, cleaning fruits and vegetables, oral hygiene, and medical purposes. The recommendation is to let the water reach a vigorous boil and then gradually cool down for at least ten minutes.
Residents in these affected areas, such as Hirsau and the city center, have been advised to boil their water as a precaution due to the presence of enterococci. Other impurities, including these microorganisms, have been found to exceed the acceptable levels in the city's water supply, leading to this public health advisory.
