Washed bear hit and thrown over wall: Fine for man from Hesse
According to the indictment, the incident is said to have occurred on the property of the 72-year-old man in Neuenstein, Hesse, in September 2023. He allegedly struck the Waschbären (badgers) on his property repeatedly with a long object until it lay bleeding and motionless on the ground. The animal reportedly suffered greatly during the attack and let out cries of pain.
Following the assault, the man is said to have seized the animal by its hind legs and thrown it over a wall onto the neighboring property. Police had to shoot and kill the animal to put it out of its misery there. The verdict was handed down on a Thursday.
Subsequently, the 72-year-old man from Neuenstein, Hesse, was brought before the District Court for his actions against the Waschbären. The court imposed a significant Fine on him for his cruelty towards the animal. Despite the ruling, some locals in Bad Hersfeld expressed sympathy towards the man, citing the nuisance caused by the badgers in the past.
