Wage dispute - Warning strikes: Semperoper has to cut another performance

The Semperoper Dresden has to cut another performance due to the protests in the public sector wage dispute. As the Saxon State Opera announced on Tuesday, this affects the fairytale opera "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdinck on Wednesday. It will only be performed in concert - i.e. without a stage set. At the end of October, the Semperoper already had to present a performance in this way. It was "L'elisir d'amore" ("The Love Potion") by Gaetano Donizetti that was affected. According to the Verdi union, 40 opera workers took part in the warning strike at the time - including stagehands, technicians and dressers.

The next round of collective bargaining with the federal states is planned for Thursday in Potsdam. Among other things, the unions are demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise, but at least 500 euros. Salary increases for around 2.5 million employees are being negotiated nationwide.
