Warning strikes in the public sector on Wednesday
The trade union Verdi has called on public sector employees to go on warning strike on Wednesday. According to the information provided, numerous state offices and universities in Saxony-Anhalt will be affected. According to a union secretary, several thousand employees throughout the state have been called to strike. The main focus is on the cities of Magdeburg and Halle.
In the state capital, employees of the state road construction authority, the state administration and the local court, the university of applied sciences and the university have been called to strike. In the south of the state, employees of the University of Halle, the Anhalt and Merseburg universities, Burg Giebichenstein, the Francke Foundations and the state administration offices in Halle and Dessau have been called out on a day-long warning strike.
Among other things, the union is demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise and better conditions for junior staff and trainees. Verdi criticized the fact that the employers' association of the federal states had not presented an offer in the second round of negotiations either. The employers' association points out that the federal states must remain capable of acting. Due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the energy crisis, the federal states are in an extremely tight financial situation.
The ongoing dispute over tariffs and working conditions has led Verdi to propose a day-long warning strike in the public sector, affecting various institutions. Employees in Magdeburg and Halle, along with their counterparts in the south of Saxony-Anhalt at institutions like the University of Halle and the Francke Foundations, have been instructed to participate in the strikes.
