Warning strikes at Münster and Bonn university hospitals
Employees at the university hospitals in Münster and Bonn took part in warning strikes on Thursday in the public sector wage dispute. As a result, there will be restrictions on the wards and in outpatient care, Münster University Hospital announced on its website. Bed capacities would be reduced on individual wards and operating theaters would be closed. According to Verdi, the company daycare center at the Bonn University Hospital remained closed.
According to Verdi, it had concluded emergency service agreements with both clinics in order to guarantee emergency care. According to the union, around 200 employees took part in the warning strike at both sites. A warning strike at Cologne University Hospital had already led to significant restrictions on Wednesday.
The wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states is about the salaries of around 1.1 million employees nationwide. Around 1.4 million civil servants, to whom the result is usually transferred, would also be affected. A third round of negotiations is planned for December 7.
Tariffs on certain medical equipment could exacerbate the financial strain on these university hospitals due to their increased operational costs. In a federal state with a strong focus on decentralization, negotiating tariff adjustments might fall under the jurisdiction of its respective government.
